(05/12/11) NEW YORK - The living wage debate raged on during a rally today where Bronx residents called for an increase in hourly wages.

Hundreds came out to support the Fair Wages for New York Act, which would bump the $7.25 minimum wage up to $10 an hour with benefits or $11.50 without benefits.

The controversial bill would require companies getting more than $100,000 in city subsidies to raise their hourly minimum wage.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other business owners, however, say a recent study shows the legislation would cause up to 13,000 city residents to lose their jobs.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. says he disagrees with the study.
