Members of Wigan Young Labour, a new section of the Labour Party for people aged 15-27 in Wigan Borough, have voted to make the Living Wage their priority campaign.
The Living Wage is the amount needed to afford basic essentials, such as housing, food, energy and travel. Outside of London this is around £7.20 per hour.
Group chairman Darren Burgoyne said: “It is great to see young people working for fairness in our community.
"The Minimum Wage was a great achievement but we think businesses in the local area should be doing more than the minimum. Paying a living wage is good for workers, employers and the economy, everyone can benefit.”
