* Sixteen members of the Bronx’s Albany delegation sent a letter to Council Speaker Christine Quinn this week calling for the immediate passage of the so-called living wage bill in the City Council. The Bronx delegation’s letter is impressive for its breadth of co-signers, some of whom are political rivals, including both Assemblyman Carl Heastie, the current Bronx Democratic chair, and Assemblyman Jose Rivera, the former chairman that Heastie deposed. A key part of Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.‘s push on the living wage bill has been to unite the borough’s fractured politicos in order to pressure Quinn. Every member of the borough’s City Council delegation except one – Councilman Jimmy Vacca – and every member of the Albany delegation except one – Sen. Jeff Klein – have now publicly come out in support of the legislation, which was spurred by the 2009 collapse of the Kingsbridge Armory project in the Bronx.
